For the final project I really wanted to try to explore time, change, and motion in a variety of ways. I decided on an image of a young woman. But this isn't any portrait of a woman. I also dipped makeup sponges in paint and shot them at the canvas with a sling shot. I wanted to address how over the years younger and younger girls are wearing makeup to change their image (colored paint). I really feel that this need is fueled by the media (they are the sling shot). I also wanted to experience art for the sake of more of how it was created rather than the final product. I felt really driven by abstract expressionists. One artist in particular I really looked at was Jackson Pollock. His art work, although somewhat planned, gives off the idea of spontaneity. His process also is done almost subconciously, dripping the paint across the canvas. I wanted to mimick that by creating a stiuation where I had little control of where the paint would land, being that I'm a horrible shot, it seemed to work well.

Project #4 Modules and Patterns
Grid Exercise
Project #3 Figure to ground
For project #3 I decided to use a picture of my Uncle's wedding. I feel that this a picture of an iconic pose. I think that this pose protrays the classic idea of love and aslo that time and place in life of love and marrige.
This was my paper copy. I really didn't like it at first because I felt like the image was hard to see, but I then realized that it would be ok because the color values would be reversed and it would look more balanced and be more recognizable.
This is the final outcome. I have two copies of the shirt.

Old Pieces from my Starvation Portfolio
In high school I began a portfolio on starvation and malnutrion. I'm very interested in social issues. I find that painting or drawing things that are hard to look at make you look at art a new way. You are forced to grow and come out of your shell. And in the process you are able to educate people about atrocities happening all over the world.

Random Old Art
Nadine Sauer is one of my greatest inspirations. She is my grandmother. She encouraged me to use my artistic talents when I was a child. This is one of her watercolor paintings that I have at my house. She was actually a medical depictor for court trials. She drew what was on an x-ray so that those in the jury would be able to see it more clearly. Unfortunately I don't have any of those drawings because they are property of the court.

Project #1
This is a picture of the List that I made for this project. I really like lists because they help me to organize my thoughts and get down all my ideas.
Here are a few quick sketches of possible ideas.
In the end I chose to do a self portrait map. This is a quick sketch of the idea.
For the Final piece I decided to use two layers. The top layer is a charcoal self portrait on tracing paper. The bottom layer is a map of my hometown, Cottonwood, at about 250 ft/inch in red watercolor. In this project I really wanted to challenge myself with a self portrait and I also wanted to use lines and mark making to tell something about myself.
